I  love teaching. I have lots of experience and enjoy my students as they delight in their musical achievements. I teach piano, horn, violin and composition. That’s it. If you would like more details read on.

In my experience these three areas of music are intertwined and nourish each other. ”

LEARNING.....

.....Taking lessons, learning through practice, master classes.

I started with piano lessons at age five and continued my musical education with violin and horn and chorus earning a Bachelor of Music from Michigan State University. Since then I continue to attend workshops and seminars every year to enhance my musical growth and skills.

PERFORMING.....

.....The bottom line for music is that it be heard. Playing for others or for one’s own enjoyment is when music comes alive.

The human voice is our first instrument, accessible and expressive. I had the privilege of singing in many choirs as well as conducting several of them. My experience includes genres from jazz to oratorios in select choruses at Interlochen and in concert with Michigan State University’s elite touring chorus, State Singers.

Appearing professionally as soloist, section leader, performing in orchestras, string quartets, woodwind and brass quintets and other ensembles has made me aware of the challenges of performing and understand the process of preparation for playing for others.

TEACHING.....

.....Ideals of teaching are showing the student how, introducing appropriate methods and repertoire, enabling learning at a comfortable level in the safety of a nurturing teacher/student relationship.

We learn from our students if we are paying attention. Students are individuals and it is an art to find an effective way to introduce music to each one in a custom course of study. That is why teaching is such a joy and brings this beautiful art full circle: learning, Performing, Teaching……
